Jagatsinghpur, May 15 (LocalWire): After a cyclone alert was issued by the IMD, the district administration has decided to evacuate migrant workers from three multipurpose cyclone shelters where they had been quarantined for 21 days.
After the collection of swabs, these migrant workers will be shifted and the cyclone shelters will be sanitized and made ready to accommodate cyclone-affected people.
Collector Sangram Keshari Mohapatra has informed, “Kujang, Paradip, Erasama and Balikuda areas have been identified as sensitive zones, hence the local people will be evacuated on 18th and 19th May for their safety.
Besides this, 562 schools and Anganwadi centers have been identified in the district as shelters for local people during the cyclone,” he added.
Paradip is also considered a sensitive area, hence the administration has kept 18 cyclone shelters ready; two ODRAF teams have also been pressed into service to meet any eventuality.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea from 16th May onwards and those who are at sea have been advised to return by 15th May.
The administration has decided to activate emergency support teams in blocks and tahsils including public works, electricity, fire, police, and health department officials.
Meanwhile, the administration has directed block and civil supply officials to stock essential commodities including dried food, drinking water.
The Municipal authorities had been asked to keep stock of adequate petrol and diesel to operate pump sets to drain out water from low-lying areas.
The people who are living within three km of the seashore are to be evacuated to the safer places.
