Jajpur, Feb 20 (LocalWire) Ghan Hemrum (24) the prime accused in the alleged gang rape and murder of a tribal girl in the Jajpur district surrendered before the court at Jajpur on Thursday.
Earlier, police had arrested Rabi Siddhu (24) and a 16 year old juvenile in this case. On 17th January, another accused Ramesh Balmucha (23) of Belahudi was also arrested.
All the four accused abducted a 19 year old tribal girl on her way back home on 15th January 2020 night.
“Later, they sexually assaulted and murdered her at Hatimunda forest, five kms from her village”, said the IIC of Kalinganagar police station, Rajendra Patnaik.
A police team was formed to investigate the case. After questioning some locals in the case, the four accused were zeroed out.
“Initially, all the accused tried to mislead the police but purportedly confessed their involvement in the crime during sustained interrogation”, added the police officer.
It was revealed during the interrogation that the accused raped the victim and throttled her to death when she threatened to file an FIR against them in the police station.
One day after the girl went missing, some villagers found her body hanging from a tree in the forest to portray it as a case of suicide.
The brother of the victim filed an FIR in Kalinganagar police station and alleged that his sister was gang-raped and killed.
During investigation, police came to know that she was sexually assaulted and murdered by all the four accused persons.
Police filed a case under section 302 (murder) and 376 (d) (gang- rape) against all the arrested person, added the police officer.
