Bhubaneswar, September 20 (LocalWire): Security has been beefed up in Maoists-affected Malkanngiri district as tension mounted in the area following the death of a tribal settler in suspicious conditions at a nearby village.
The district authority has also clamped prohibitory order under Cr PC section 144 at Peperetala village under Chitrakonda block of the district declaring the assembly of more than five people as unlawful.
The tension erupted in the area after the death of a local man Raju Hatal on 13 September, with local settlers alleging it to be a coldblooded murder by the security forces engaged in the anti-Naxal operation, official sources said.
The village with dense forest cover and hilly terrains encircling it is widely regarded as an operational area of outlawed Maoists.
According to sources, the district administration had received a report that the red rebels were trying to take advantage of the situation and hence, the prohibitory order was clamped as a preemptive measure to maintain peace in the village.
Sources also indicated that the situation was under control and there was no report of any untoward incident.
Besides the state police, the Para-military forces are also keeping a close eye on the situation, officials stated.
