Jajpur, Dec 10 (LocalWire) Large numbers of people under the banner of Sachetana Nagarika Manch on Monday organised a protest meeting and blocked the highway at Kabatabandha under Dharmasala block of Jajpur district to draw attention of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to the poor road condition and slow four-laning work of the 133 kilometer long stretch from Chandikhola -Sukinda to Talcher.
They threatened to intensify their agitation if authorities failed to address their grievances.
Following a protest staged by the locals, a large number of vehicles were stranded for a while on the both sides of the roads.
“We also demand the construction of another bridge over the river Bramahani at Kabatabandha as the present 56-year-old Bramahani bridge at Kabatabandha is not in good shape,” said former MLA Prafulla Ghadei.
“Last year, I had written to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and urged him to expedite the four-laning work of Chandikhole-Duburi-Talcher section of National Highway-200. But the work is yet to start,” he said.
According to the protesters, the road had witnessed several accidents in recent months owing to its poor condition.
Chief General Manager (CGM) and regional officer of NHAI in Bhubaneswar, Dr Ramaprasad Panda, said: ” We are yet to obtain proper forest clearance from the forest department to start the road-widening work from Chandikhola to Duburi.”
