Bhubaneswar, May 31 (Local Wire): The temple administration of Puri Jagannath temple has now decided to conduct the Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra without devotees on the roads.
Gajapati Maharaj of Puri Dibya Singh Deb told media persons that a decision into this regard was taken after a meeting of the Sri Jagannath Temple Committee which reviewed the situation.
However the Home Ministry has allowed opening of religious places from June, due to Coronavirus threat the decision was taken, Deb said.
“It was unanimously decided that the Rath Yatra could be held without devotees.
Coronavirus threat is likely to aggravate if lakhs of people come together for the festival.
We have given our recommendations. If the government allows the festival could be done sans public presence,” said Deb.
The committee meanwhile has also suggested that the Grand Road of Puri where the procession goes should be freed from crowd and even the people of Puri should not be allowed to come to the area.
However the committee has said that live broadcast of the events could be done to take care of sentiments of the people.
