Bhubaneswar, Oct 15 (LocalWire): Security of rail tracks and stations will be further strengthened in Maoists-affected regions to ensure the safety of life and property.
Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police will work in cohesion to thwart possible acts of sabotage by Left wing extremists, said Director General of Police (DGP), Bijoy Sharma here today.
The Maoists had triggered violence targeting rail stations and tracks in the state in 2017.
However, no Maoist violence has been witnessed since then, he said.
‘Our area of focus is to ensure the safety of rail passengers and property.
More Close Circuit Television cameras need to be installed with improved lighting in rail stations which are vulnerable to extremist activities.
Installation of baggage scanners at important railway stations is also required to ensure foolproof security,’ Sharma said while presiding over a state-level railway protection force meet.
Safety of rail passengers and emphasis on internal security is being prioritized.
The railway authorities have been requested to issue identity cards to vendors for proper verification of their antecedents.
It has been found in the past that crime mongers pose as vendors to commit crimes.
So to keep tab on lawbreakers, the vendors’ identity proof is highly essential, he added.
