Bolangir, Jan 14 (LocalWire) Indian Railway earns only Rs. 20 per day on Bolangir-Bichhupali route, shows a RTI reply.
“Only two people travelled daily from Bolangir to Bichhupali, covering a distance of 16.8 km, in the Bolangir Khurda railway line, by train” shows the reply received by Hemanta Panda, an RTI activist in Balangir.
The Indian Railway earned only Rs. 20 per day from these passengers,’ he stated in a press conference.
“Once the train will be connected to more stations in the route, more and more passengers will avail the benefit and income of railway will go up” a senior railway official told LocalWire.
The Bolangir-Bichhupali train was flagged off by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15th January 2019.
While dedicating it to the people, the PM hoped that it will remove backwardness of this area and boost railway connectivity in Odisha further.
The state government and the Railway had signed an agreement to complete the Khurda Bolangir railway line by 2021.
However, so far only 77 km from Khurda side and 16.8 km from Bolangir side railway line has been constructed. “No work has started in Sonepur to Daspalla section,” said Panda.
He demanded early completion of Khurda Bolangir railway line on priority basis and early construction in of railway line up to Sonepur from Bolangir so that people of this area benefit from it, he said.
