Rourkela, Oct 31 (LocalWire) Work on third railway link of the ambitious freight corridor of the Railways between Rourkela and Jharsuguda continued without any resistance today, police said.
Opposing the project, some locals had squatted on the railway lines at Bondamunda a day before yesterday, argued with the contractor and did not allow the workers to work.
However, there was no law and order situation in the area.
Two platoons of forces were deployed on the spot since yesterday besides the RPF personnel, said DSP PK Mishra.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Biramitrapur, Shankar Oram today met the additional district magistrate (ADM), Rourkela, V Yedula and raised the issue of non-payment of displacement dues of the affected persons.
“The opposition is coming mostly from those settled on railway lands.
There are very few genuine persons who have not received their compensation”, sources said.
The railway had began the work on the project after the honourable High Court gave its green signal.
There are nine more slums on railway lands with over ten thousand population which are yet to be removed.
The work on the project is going on full swing except on Rourkela side, the sources said.
The foundation for this freight corridor measuring 102 km was laid in 2017.
