Bhubaneswar, September 30 (LocalWire) Indian Railways’ state-of-the-art waste-to-energy plant is expected to be commissioned in Bhubaneswar by January 2020, officials said.
The foundation stone for the project was laid here on Monday.
Waste generated from carriage workshop, coaching depot at Bhubaneswar, railway station will be the feeder material for this plant, chief workshop manager, Mancheswar workshop Manas Poddar said.
The Rs.2 crore project involves segregation of bio-degradable and non-degradable waste.
The energy to be produced from the proposed plant will be in the form of light diesel oil, which is used to light furnaces.
The Bhubaneswar plant will be the first plant in Indian Railways and third in India.
The first plant has been set up at Moti Bagh in Delhi while the second one has been set up by Infosys at Bangalore.
