Bhubaneswar, Sept 8 (LocalWire): Heavy rains, triggered by low pressure, battered five districts of the state for the past 24 hours leading to water-logging in low lying areas and affecting normal life, revenue and disaster management officials said.
People living in low lying areas have been evacuated to shelter houses as heavy rains lashed Sambalpur, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Keonjhar and Jajpur districts, they said.
The Baitarani river at Akhuapada (Jajpur district) and Vamsadhara river at Kashinagar (Gajapati district) crossed the danger mark today morning but later receded.
All other major rivers of the state are also flowing below danger level, the officials added.
There are reports of damage of kutcha houses in the rain-hit districts and paddy crops in specific pockets have been submerged.
The damage caused to houses and fields are being assessed, they added.
Meanwhile, four people were feared drowned in a boat capsize yesterday evening near Khadaga-Prasad ferry ghat in Brahmani river in Dhenkanal district.
In another boat mishap today afternoon, a country boat carrying 20 people capsized in Budhabalang river near Padampur ferry ghat under Remuna police station limits in Balasore district.
All of them were rescued by alert locals.
