Bhubaneswar, Oct 24 (LocalWire): At least 20 houses were totally damaged and over 150 cattle and other domesticate animals killed by landslide, triggered by heavy rains since the past 48 hours, at a hillock-side village in Gajapati district.
In another rain-related incident, a 40-year-old man was killed and two of his family members injured as incessant rains led to the cave-in of their kutcha house in Tentelapashi village under Harichandanpur tehsil in Keonjhar district.
The landslide devastated Badakolakata village under Gumma block of Gajapati district.
Badakolakata village located close to Mukhalinga hillock under Gumma block of Gajapati district was rudely awakened by a landslide at around 7 am today. Officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
‘We have received the news of death of more than 150 domestic animals though no human casualty has been reported. At least 20 houses have been completely destroyed and an equal number of houses partially damaged,’ said Block Development Officer, Natabar Gouda.
It’s still raining heavily and the village may face further landslide. Around 300 people living in the remote village are being evacuated to safety, he added.
