Bhubaneswar, Mar 15 (Local Wire): Several speeches delivered by the Odisha-based MPs in Rajya Sabha in Odia had not been reaching to the national media and others persons as the Upper House is deprived of an Odia interpreter for the last three years.
Since 2017, the Upper House does not have a single person who can interpret and decipher the speeches in Odia for other Parliamentarians and the national media depriving their rights to know the contents of their speeches.
Sometimes the Odia interpreter working in Lok Sabha does the part-time work in Rajya Sabha.
This comes at a time when the Union government has accorded classical language tag to Odia. Several MPs have been speaking in Odia in the Rajya Sabha.
Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra spoke in his native language when the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill was undertaken.
Due to the lack of an interpreter, other members and the national media were deprived of the contents put forward by the BJD in the Upper House.
On the other hand, Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Venkaiah Naidu always encouraged the members of the House to speak in their own mother tongue.
However now after almost three years, a new interpreter is likely to join and help the Upper House in deciphering the speeches of Odisha-based MPs.
BJD welcomed the move on the recruitment of an Odia interpreter for the House.
