Bhubaneswar, April 19 (LocalWire): A Tamarin monkey, rare in these parts, died today at the Nandankanan Zoological Park here.
The male, squirrel-sized monkey was quarantined in the veterinary unit of the zoo. An autopsy will be conducted to ascertain the cause of its death.
The moustached monkey had escaped from its enclosure on 2 August last year and later captured by zoo officials after five days of search.
The Tamarins are found in South America, mainly northwestern Colombia and the Amazon basin. They live in groups and have a life expectancy of upto 18 years.
With the death of this monkey, only a female Tamarin is left in the Nandankanan Zoo.
