Bhubaneswar,March 03 (LocalWire): Manglajodi, the picturesque lake in the Khurda district which is famous for witnessing seasonal migratory birds has again hosted a rare species of a bird, adding curiosity amid the ornithologists and wildlife experts from the state.
Albino birds, the rare species of birds was said to be spotted in the region for the first time.
This species of birds are white coloured with white beak. They are marked by white skin due to lack of pigmentation as they often lack melanin.
Their eyes are pink or brown in colour. Their name Albino is said to be derived from the word ‘albinism’ which implies congenital absence of any pigmentation or colouration in living things which often lead to white hair. Such features have also been seen in some mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates.
It is said that albinism is only seen in 1 out of every 1800 birds, which makes such birds rare species.
A local photographer named Madhu Behera has clicked the photos of the rare species of bird.
Behera said some experts are now also identifying it as Purple Moorhen species of bird, adding curiosity among the experts on the matter.
