Bhubaneswar, June 21 (LocalWire): The state government today said that it would take favourable action in the Supreme Court on the matter of Rath Yatra as per the request of Gajapati Maharaj of Puri.
“…the Gajapati Maharaj of Puri has written a letter dated 20th June, 2020 to the State Government, inter alia requesting that the Rath Yatra in Puri may be held without any congregation of general public and with the State Government taking appropriate steps to prevent spread of COVID-19,” a statement from then State Law Department said.
It also added, “The State Government will take favourable action as legally permissible on the request of the Gajapati Maharaj when the writ petition is taken up for hearing before the SC,”
The government said that similar views were submitted by the intervenors in the SC during the last hearing.
It also said that it had raised reservations on the celebration of Rath Yatra across the state due to the Coronavirus crisis.
