Berhampur, Jan 2 (LocalWire) The Indian Red Cross Society has launched their Odia Braille Calendar-2019, which will help the visually impaired people to keep track of the year.
The Odisha government’s Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SS&EPD) department has been sponsoring the printing of around 2000 copies of the calendar since the last two years.
The 16-page Braille Calendar, printed at Red Cross computerized braille printing press, was distributed to different organizations, including 40 special schools, different government departments, libraries and college hostels for the visually impaired before New Year.
“We have printed around 2000 copies of the calendar and have already dispatched them to the different organizations and individuals in and outside the state,” said braille printing press manager Prakash Narayan Rath,
He said the Odisha Blind Foundation sponsored the printing of the calendar for two years before the state government took over last year.
Besides regular dates and days, the calendar marks dates of important Hindu festivals, and government holidays.
The calendar also has quotes of eminent Odia poets, said Rath.
The multi-colour cover page of the calendar, however, is printed in normal letters at general press.
In the inner pages, some sections of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act-2016 and different schemes of the SS&EPD have been printed in ink.
