Bhubaneswar, November 16 (LocalWire): Knowledge and research for innovation, backed by appropriate use of technology and apt policy decision, were needed for the country to move forward, the Minister for Road Transport, Highways and MSME, Nitin Gadkari said on Saturday.
“A lot depends on vision, technology, and knowledge as it can convert waste into wealth,” Gadkari said while addressing at the 6th Convocation of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University here.
He pointed out that a Malaysian engineer had informed him about a new technology in which steel fibre can be used in place of steel for the construction of bridges and flyovers to reduce cost.
“I decided to get it checked by engineers, and found it to be true. The use of steel fibre reduced the construction cost by 25 percent,” he said, adding that there was a need to think out of the box.
Highlighting the need for research and innovation in different areas, including bio-fuel, the minister pointed out that SpiceJet had used 25 percent Jatropha oil as aviation fuel in its test flight from Dehradun to Delhi.
Gadkari also laid stress on the development of the agricultural sector which had immense potential of generating employment.
