Berhampur, Oct 20 (LocalWire): The body of a retired professor of MKCG Medical College and Hospital was donated to the college here today.
According to the wish of Goura Charan Choudhury, retired professor of anaesthesia department of MKCG Medical College, family members handed over his body to the college authorities after his death in a private nursing home in Bhubaneswar.
Before handing over the body, doctors of the ophthalmology department took both his eyes as per the wish of the 78-year-old professor.
‘My father had told about his wish to my mother,’ Sushree Choudhary, daughter of the deceased said. ‘After his death, my mother Pramodini Choudhury disclosed it and we handed over my father’s body to the anatomy department,’ she said.
‘We feel proud as the cadaver of my father will benefit several students in their studies and research,’ she said.
‘The body will be very helpful to the students as the department does not have adequate number of cadavers for students,’ said the departmental head of Anatomy, Sadanand Rath.
‘The body has been embalmed to protect it from decomposition,’ he said. With this department has five cadavers, he added.
Choudhury had served Berhampur and Burla Medical Colleges and died due to meningitis, his family said.
There have been six body donations in the medical college in the last six years. While one body was donated in 2013, another one was made in 2017. While two bodies were donated in 2018, two were donated this year.
