Berhampur, Dec 14 (LocalWire) Several people on Friday staged a road blockade at Barkhama under Kandhamal district’s Baliguda police station limits demanding immediate arrest of a man who allegedly raped a one-and-half year old girl after kidnapping her about four days ago.
The villagers also demanded Rs. 5 lakh compensation to the victim, along with free and proper medical treatment.
Road communication between Baligda to Kantamal was disrupted for several hours due to their agitation.
The villagers however lifted their stir after police and additional tehsildar of Baliguda AK Mallick rushed the spot and assured arrest of the rapist at the soonest.
The accused, suspected to be a teenager, is a neighbor of the victim, police said.
According to the police, the accused lured the girl on Sunday and kidnapped her while she was playing.
The baby was admitted at district headquarterS hospital AT Phulbani, a day after the incident. She Is still undergoing treatment and her condition is stated to be stable, sources said.
Suspecting the accused might be raped her; the victim’s father lodged a complaint at Baliguda police station.
“Details of the incident will only be known after the arrest of the accused,” said Baliguda police station inspector-in-charge Rama Kanta Patra.
Police said they are yet to get the medical report.
He said they have formed two police teams to trace and nab the accused.
Patrolling has been intensified, while raids are being conducted at his possible hideouts in and around Baliguda.
“We have also informed the adjoining police stations, including Tumudibandh and Phiringia. about the incident and asked for their help to arrest him,” said Patra.
