Bhubaneswar, October 22 (LocalWire): The state capital recently got its first robot restaurant Robo Chef. Located in the DLF Cyber City, this is the first such restaurant in eastern India.
Launched on 16 October this year, the restaurant is unique in many ways – while the food here is served by two robots, Champa and Chameli, this is the first Indian restaurant to employ the machines that are made in India.
While use of robots in restaurants is not a new concept and such facilities are already there in several countries like Japan, China, Thailand, and the USA, as also in Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru, this is the first restaurant to use robots that have been made locally by a Jaipur based startup company.
During it’s less than a fortnight existence, the restaurant has gained huge popularity that is keeping its staff and manager busy and at times difficult to manage the huge number of people wanting to experience the restaurant and see the robots.
Between the busy schedule and the off time, LocalWire visited the restaurant for an exclusive interview with its managing director Jeet Basha .
Here are the excerpts from the interaction.
LocalWire : How did you get the idea of employing robots in the restaurant?
Jeet Basha : Many restaurants in India and other countries have used this concept, hiring robots to serve the diners, but this was not done in the eastern part of India. Besides, Robo Chef is the first Indian restaurant to use made-in-India robots.
LocalWire : How much does a robot cost?
Jeet Basha : The cost of one robot is around Rs 5.5 lakh.
LocalWire : Is it actually capable of replacing humans and reducing labour?
Jeet Basha : No, actually not. We have to employ another man for operating these robots using a tablet. But these robots are efficient at their tasks.
LocalWire : Which technology does it use to function?
Jeet Basha : It uses radar technology that basically works when we give instructions to the robots just like on a normal computer or mobile phone.
The robots are even trained to wish and welcome the customers of the restaurant while addressing them.
This helps creates a good impression on visitors and they can enjoy their food.
This concept can be further optimized to bring some new functionalities and features inside the robot.
The robots are doing a great job as per the expectations of the company which is a great thing.
Robots can benefit humans in many ways if implemented correctly with proper planning.
