Bhubaneswar, Oct 24 (LocalWire): The role of applied mathematics in various spheres of scientific and engineering endeavours was stressed at during a three-day international conference which commenced at the SOA Deemed to be University here today.
Applied Mathematics has a role in all spheres of scientific and engineering endeavours to promote meaningful research and progressive outcomes, Prof Rajkumar Roychoudhury, former professor at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, said while addressing the inaugural session of the international conference on Applied Mathematics in Science and Engineering (AMSE) 2019 held at the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), SOA’s faculty of engineering and technology.
Prof Tanka Nath Dhamala of Central Department of Mathematics at the Trivuban University, Kathmandu, who attended as guest of honour said there was need for wider awareness amongst the academic community about the role of mathematics.
The inaugural session was chaired by Prof Amit Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor of SOA, who emphasized on the application and research of mathematics in different aspects of real life problems. He also suggested that steps should be taken to set up a SAARC Centre for Applied Mathematics constituting members of the SAARC nations.
Prof. Banerjee urged the participants to ensure that all research in applied mathematics eventually turned out to be beneficial to the community at large.
Prof PK Nanda, SOA’s Dean (Research and Development), Dr RP Sharma from NIT, Arunachal Pradesh, Dr. Apul Narayan Dev, Convenor and Prof. Manjula Das, organising secretary of the conference also addressed the gathering.
