Bhubaneswar, June 11 (LocalWire): India Post has announced that the newly formed Rourkela Postal Division will start functioning from today.
The new postal division will enable the Odisha circle of the postal department provide better services to southern and western parts of the state.
With this the total number of postal Division in Odisha has now increased to 20.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Odisha Circle Chief Postmaster General Dr Santosh Kumar Kamila informed that the Rayagada Postal Division has also been made functional since 1 April 2019, after a gap of 30 years.
He highlighted that the Odisha Circle has been working towards achieving the national financial inclusion goal.
“Overall 33 India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) have been launched in the state, while 6,859 post offices are working as its access point,” he said adding that till date nearly 209,498 IPPB accounts have been opened under the financial inclusion scheme of the Government of India.
“We have also implemented the project Digital Advancement of Rural Post Office for New India or DARPAN in 6,967 branch post offices to meet customer needs by making digital payments and remittance services simple and easier,” Dr Kamila said.
