Rourkela, April 4 (LocalWire): Rourkela Steel Plant CEO Dipak Chattaraj on Wednesday felicitated hockey star Shilanand Lakra for his brilliant performance at the 28th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Tournament in Ipoh, Malaysia, from March 24-30.
Lakra, who hails from Kalejapatthar village of Sundargarh district, was a SAIL hockey academy cadet, before he was invited to represent India at the tournament.
Shilanand was accompanied by his coaches Raju Kant Saini and Peter Tirkey at the felicitation ceremony.
Chattaraj wished the youngster all success in his future endeavors. He also praised the coaches for their role in transforming the cadets at the academy into international stars.
Shilanand played his 2nd consecutive Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Tournament this year.
India finished runners up in the tournament after narrowly losing to South Korea in a tie-breaker.
Shilanand, who plays in the forward line, is known for his agile moves and capability to pierce the defense with ease. He made his debut in the Indian team in 2018 after his selection for the tournament.
SAIL Hockey Academy was set up in 1992 in Rourkela, known as the hockey heartland of India.
