Rourkela, April 6 (LocalWire): The scouts and guides team of Deepika Ispat Sikhya Sadan, a free school set up by Rourkela Steel Plant for the underprivileged children, have won the prestigious Rajya Puraskar for the fourth consecutive year.
They were honoured at the Rajya Puraskar Utsav held at Raj Bhawan on March 28. Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal presented the Rajya Puraskar certificates for Scouts and Guides to 29 students of the school.
Rekha Agrawal, acting president, DMS, congratulated the students and the teachers for their performance.
The Rajya Puraskar was instituted in recognition of the contributions made by the scouts and guides of the society.
Some of the activities in which the children had participated include blood donation, cycle rally, plantation, cloth distribution, Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan, Raksha Bandhan at Railway Station etc.
Among the 29 recipients of the certificates, there are 18 guides and 11 scouts, who are students of class 9.
The certificate will give the students additional weightage at the time of admission for higher studies and other career related opportunities.
The Rajya Purskar Certificates are given to those who have successfully completed the different advanced stages of scout and guide training such as Pravesh, Pratham Sopan, Dwitya Sopan and Tritya Sopan.
Deepika Ispat Sikhya Sadan (DISS) was established in 2007 by Rourkela Steel Plant.
