Bhubaneswar, Sep 10 (LocalWire)In a major crackdown on drugs peddling, Rs 30 lakh worth brown sugar contraband was seized today in a joint raid by Bhubaneswar special squad and Khandagiri police at Kalingangar locality on the outskirts of the city.
On a tip-off, the joint squad intercepted the drug peddler Santosh Kumar Panda, who is suspected to be the kingpin of an interstate drugs racket. Panda, Bidyadharpur village in Puri district, has a history of crimes and was earlier arrested twice by police.
300 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 30 lakh in international market were seized from his possession. The seized contraband is being sent to state drugs control laboratory for quality testing, said officials.
The incriminating link of the accused with drug peddlers active in other states is being looked in to.
The accused is being interrogated and he will be forwarded to court later under 21-c provision of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act provisions, police concluded.
