Berhampur, Nov 9 (LocalWire) Launching a crackdown on illegal ganja plantation in Gajapati and Kandhamal districts, the multi-disciplinary squads have destroyed the cannabis plants grown in areas spread in hundreds of acres, official sources said here today.
The narcotic plants destroyed so far was valued at over Rs 40-crore and the crackdown is still continuing since last one week, the sources said.
In Gajapati district, over four lakh full grown ganja plants in about 220-acres have been destroyed while in Kandhamal the plants cultivated in over 1200-acres of land cleaned up so far by the squad which comprised personnel from police, excise, revenue and forest department.
Ganja plantation was found in Areas under Adava, Mohana and R.Udayagiri in Gajapati and Phiringia and Khajuripada in Kandhamal districts.
On Thursday, Boudh Police had also conducted a raid at Tilpanga under Manamunda police station and destroyed about 1.40 lakh cannabis plants.
Narcotic plants spread over an area of 76-acres was set afire by the squad in hill areas under R.Udayagiri police station on Friday, said sub divisional police officer (SDPO) R.Udayagiri, Ashok Kumar Mohanty.
