Bhubaneswar, Dec 3 (LocalWire): The Union government released Rs 4,679.09 crore-Central assistance to the Odisha since 29 April to facilitate the relief and reconstruction work in natural disasters.
The Centre had sanctioned Rs 3382.22 crore-Central assistance sanctioned from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to Odisha government for post Fani-cyclone relief and reconstruction work.
An inter-ministerial panel was constituted which visited the state twice to assess the damages after Fani barreled through coastal Odisha and triggered large-scale loss of life and property.
On the basis of damage assessment submitted by the Central panel, the Centre had sanctioned Rs 3,338.22 crore-worth assistance to the cyclone-hit state from NDRF, minister of state for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, while replying to a query by BJP lawmaker Jual Oram, told the Lok Sabha today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the cyclone-battered state and released Rs 1,000 crore-assistance in the immediate aftermath of the May 3 cyclone, the minister told the lower house.
Prior to the cyclone, the Centre had provided Rs 340.875 crore to Odisha from the State Disaster Response Fund fund on 29 April in advance, the minister said.
