Berhampur, June 24 (LocalWire): Veteran BJD leader and former Berhampur MLA Ramesh Chandra Chyaupatnaik has expressed his happiness at the nomination of Amar Patnaik and Sasmit Patra as the BJD candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha (RS) by-election for three seats from Odisha on July 5.
The BJD has decided to extended support to the BJP candidate Ashwinni Vaishnab for the third seat.
Chyaupatnaik, who was one of the aspirants for the berth in the Upper House hailed the decision taken by the party supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
“I have hoped to get the party ticket for Upper House but I am not unhappy with the development. I welcomed the decision of the chief minister,” the 76-year old veteran said.
He has, however, not given up hope to get a major post and responsibility. “I hope the chief minister will give me an opportunity to serve the people for some more years,” he added.
“I am a disciplined worker of the party and I have to abide by the decision of the party high command,” he said ruling out rumors that he may quit the party adding that the party supremo may consider his case in the next phase when some more RS seats fall vacant
He, however, did not comment on the chief minister’s decision to extend support to the BJP candidate without nominating him.
“What the chief minister has done is for the benefit of the state and its people,” he stated.
Reports indicate that the veteran BJD leader was promised a berth in RS after he was denied ticket to seek re-election from Berhampur assembly constituency for the sixth time in the recently-concluded general election.
