Berhampur, Jan 10 (LocalWire) A sailing expedition, jointly organized by Army Air Defence (AAD) and India Navy, commenced from Gopalpur off Odisha’s Ganjam coast on Thursday, on the occasion of silver jubilee of Corps AAD.
Commandant of Army Air Defence College, Gopalpur Satinder Singh flagged off the expedition at Gopalpur.
The team comprised of seven people, including an officer and three other ranks from Army Air Defence College, Gopalpur, and an officer and two sailors from the Indian Navy.
The team will cover about 242-km in the Bay of Bengal between Gopalpur and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, according to a government release.
The sailing team had earlier commenced the expedition from Visakhapatnam on last Jan 6 and was flagged off by Chief of Staff Eastern Naval Command Vice Admiral MS Pawar.
The expedition will culminate at Visakhapatnam on next Jan 14, thus actually covering a total distance of 482-km in the sea.
While convey his best wishes to the participants in the expedition, the commandant of Army Air Defence College emphasized on the significance of such joint activities within the armed forces and contribution on sense of camaraderie and brotherhood between the two services.
“It would be helpful in creating enhanced coordination between the two services while carrying out joint operations in future,” he said.
