Bhubaneswar, August 17 (LocalWire): The Sambalpuri Bandha Shreeganita saree worn by Vidya Balan for the promotion of her movie Shakuntala Devi is being auctioned, directors of Sabat Exports (the company which facilitated the transport of the saree to Vidya Balan) Amrita and Anita Sabat said today.
The auction began on August 14 and will continue till 10 pm of August 20.
People who want to buy the saree can access the auction through the designated Google Form.
The funds collected from the auction will be handed over to the weaver of the saree Bhagabata Meher, said Sabat Exports.
It may be noted that Vidya Balan had worn this Sambalpuri saree which has mathematical equations woven into it, the day before the release of her movie Shakuntala Devi.
She had also praised the weavers of Odisha on social media.
After wearing the saree, Vidya had returned it to the company. Later, as many women expressed the desire to wear the saree, the initiative of auctioning the saree was taken.
Bhagabata Meher, a weaver from Tikiriapada village of Biramaharajpur in Sonepur, had woven this saree.
While Prafulla Meher was responsible for designing the chalk and blackboard idea, Brundaban Meher had designed the graph and Ganga Meher had helped in the making of the Bandha of the saree.
