Bhubaneswar, Jan 16 (Localwire): Sameer Mohanty, currently serving as the Odisha BJP Vice President, is all set to be the new State President on Thursday. He has filed his nomination paper for the top post on Thursday.
Mohanty’s nomination is the lone paper received so far and the formal announcement will be done by the party by 5 pm on Thursday.
The post of the Odisha BJP president had fallen vacant after former party President Basanta Panda was elected MP from Kalahandi during 2019 general elections.
Sameer Mohanty, 56 was a senior functionary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of RSS before he joined BJP.
In 2009, he had unsuccessfully contested from Bhubaneswar-Ekamra assembly constituency on BJP ticket.
The role of party president will be significant as BJP gaining the status of principal Opposition party in the state in the 2019 assembly poll.
