Berhampur, May 2 (LocalWire): In a bid to ensure the use of face masks by all citizens to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Gajapati district administration has launched the “Sampurna Mask Gram” campaign, an official said on Saturday.
The village and Gram Panchayat in which all residents use a mask diligently for the next fortnight will be rewarded by the district administration.
“Our objective is to make Gajapati a “Sampurna Mask District”, where all people will ensure the use of face masks, which is one of the major tools in the fight against coronavirus,” said Gajapati collector Anupam Saha.
“This would be achieved in phases, first village, panchayat, block and then district,” he added.
The masks are being produced by the members of the women self-help groups across the district with the active support of Odisha Livelihood Mission (OLM) and Mission Shakti.
Members of the WSHGs will sell the masks to the villagers in their respective villages with the active help of volunteers.
Free distribution would be done, if one cannot afford the purchase, sources said.
“We want at least two reusable cloth masks to be available to every family in the village,” said the collector.
According to sources, as many as 83,715 masks have already been made by the members of 62 WSHGs in the district by Friday.
Of them, 49,433 masks have been sold to the villagers.
In the next fortnight, the SHG members hope to produce around 4 lakh masks to meet the requirements in the district, sources said.
