Bhubaneswar, Sept 29 (LocalWire): Bharatiya Janata Party today named Sanat Gadtia as the party’s candidate for Bijepur Assembly by-elections, scheduled for 21 October.
Earlier yesterday, the ruling BJD had named former MLA Rita Sahu as the party’s candidate.
Congress has already named Bargarh district vice-president Dillip Kumar Panda as its candidate.
The by-poll in Bijepur Assembly seat in Bargarh district was necessitated after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik resigned from the seat and retained the Hinjili Assembly segment in Ganjam district.
BJD president Patnaik had for the first time in his over two-decade-old political career contested from two Assembly seats and won both in the last Assembly elections.
The last date for filing nomination papers is 30 September while it will be scrutinized on 1 October.
The counting of votes will be held on 24 October. Around 2,32,005 eligible voters are expected to cast their franchise in 285 polling booths in the Assembly seat.
