Bhubaneswar, July 18 (LocalWire): Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik commemorating Nelson Mandela’s101st birth anniversary today, sculpted the South Africa’s former President at Puri Sea Beach and wished his fellow citizens on Mandela Day.
Pattnaik tweeted a picture quoting, ‘Remembering Nelson Mandela on his birth anniversary on Mandela Day.’
Along with Mandela’s face, Pattnaik mentioned, ‘Nelson Mandela Day for freedom, justice and democracy.’
Nelson Mandela was the first black to be elected as the President of South Africa through a fully representative democratic election.
He served from 1994 to 1999 and his government aimed at eradicating social evils like apartheid (institutionalized racial segregation).
He was a nationalist, socialist and philanthropist who also served as African National Congress (ANC) President from 1991 to 1997.
Every year, on his birthday today, Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated internationally to honour the former President’s contribution to socio-economic welfare.
