Berhampur, April 3 (LocalWire): With less than two weeks left before the first segment of elections begin in the state, changeovers are still taking place among the major political party candidates and the poll scenario is watched with bated breath by political observers.
Saroj Padhy, a former MLA who had won the Aska seat in 2004 as an Independent candidate was till recently with the Congress which he had left for the BJP recently.
Today, along with several supporters, Padhy joined the ruling party during an election meeting attended by Naveen Patnaik in Kanishi under Gopalpur Assembly segment in Ganjam district.
Padhy had joined the BJP last month after resigning from the Congress. The saffron party had nominated him from the Aska Assembly segment but had later withdrawn his name in favour of Debaraj Mohanty, a sitting BJD MLA, who had also joined the BJP recently.
Mohanty, a three-time MLA had resigned from the ruling party after the BJD denied him ticket to contest.
‘BJP betrayed me by withdrawing my ticket,’ said Padhy. ‘So I snapped all ties with the party and joined the BJD. I will work for the party under the direction of the party supremo and chief minister,’ he said.
Padhy had unsuccessfully contested four times from Aska. In the last elections, held in 2014, he had contested with a Congress ticket and finished a close second.
