Berhampur, Jan 1 (LocalWire) Different organizations on Tuesday paid rich tribute to social reformer Sashi Bhusan Rath on his 134th birth anniversary.
Known as “Ganjam Byaghra” (Tiger of Ganjam), Rath was co-founder of Dainik Asha newspaper, the first Odia daily, published from Brahmapur.
People from all walks of life paid tribute at his statue erected at Old Bus stand area here.
Students of Sashi Bhusan Rath Government (Autonomous) Women’s College garlanded his statue on the college premises.
Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in SMIT, here also celebrated Rath’s birth anniversary.
Known as a social reformer, Rath was born at Sorada in Ganjam district on January 1, 1885. He died on March 20, 1943.
Besides his contribution to the freedom struggle, movement for separate Odisha state and towards journalism, Rath also struggled to stop animal sacrifice before the deity at Tara Tarini, a famous shakti shrine in the district.
