Berhampur, December 27 (LocalWire): The Berhampur University (BU) has decided to institute a distinguished alumnus award to felicitate UN Assistant General Secretary Satya Sundar Tripathy.
The university will be felicitating Tripathy as one of its distinguished alumni during the 54th foundation day celebration on 2 January 2020, a senior BU professor Debi Prasanna Patnaik said.
“We have invited the Old Boys’ Association and different heads of departments to suggest names of the distinguished alumnus of the university and Tripathy was selected by a committee based on the suggestions,” Patnaik said, adding that the university will also felicitate one of its founder members Satyabrat Mohapatra, who had played pivotal role for establishment of the university on the occasion.
The University will also present its prestigious Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanj award to eminent litterateur Pratibha Ray during the function.
The prestigious award instituted in the name of Upendra Bhanj, one of the great poets of the state from Ganjam, is presented every year by the University for an Individual’s Contribution towards Indian literature.
The award includes a citation, and Rs one lakh in cash, university registrar Ranjan Kumar Biswal stated.
Similarly, Narasingh Tripathy and Laxman Sabar of Nabarangapur and Gunupur respectively will be awarded the Dakhina Odisha Lok Sanskruti Sanman Award by the university at the function.
Tripathy and Sabar are eminent folk artists in the state.
Besides the citation, each of them would be presented Rs 20,000 by the university on the occasion, he stated.
Hrusikesh Panigrahy, a senior officer of All India Radio (AIR) who has worked towards promoting the Odia culture and Prasant Mohanty, an Odia poet, will also be felicitated on the occasion by the university.
