Cuttack, June 2 (LocalWire): In a major boost to healthcare in the region, the Biochemistry Department of SCB Medical College and Hospital has set up a Molecular Genomic Diagnosis and Research Laboratory.
The facility was inaugurated by Health and Family Welfare secretary Dr. Pramod Kumar Meherda inaugurated the lab, here on Thursday.
This is the first of its kind facility in any state government medical college set up in Eastern India.
According to SCB officials, the facility will also help detect HPV at the pre-cancerous stage along with the virus type. HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer.
The facility will also be a major boost in the detection of malaria, tuberculosis, methicillin-resistant bacterial infection in ICU, and drug sensitivity within a few hours.
Earlier, the samples were being sent outside Odisha for tests while the patients had to wait for 15 to 20 days to get the report.
