Bhubaneswar, Dec 8 (LocalWire): In a bid to provide nutritious food to students, the school and mass education department is planning to introduce school garden programme in Odisha soon, said a senior official on Saturday.
The unutilised land in schools will be used for vegetable farming.
The gardens will be set up at schools having abandoned land, boundary and water facility.
The Odisha Jibika Mission will take the farming responsibility, while the agriculture department will provide all technical support, along with seed and fertilizer, for setting up vegetable gardens on school campus.
Seasonal vegetables and fruits like banana, papaya, lemon and drumstick will be grown under the program.
The project will be implemented as an joint venture of school and mass education, agriculture, panchayati raj and drinking water and SC/ST departments, along with World Food Programme.
