Kendrapara, Sept 15 (LocalWire): An inebriated teacher who had molested a 12-year-old student of an Upper Primary School in Kendrapara district on Friday was suspended yesterday after the girl’s parents complained to the headmaster.
The victim’s father said the teacher, Sarojkanta Barik had asked his daughter, a class VI student to meet him alone and had molested her.
‘During investigation we came to know that the teacher was in an inebriated condition when he molested the girl.
The school authorities subsequently suspended him.
But the parents chose not to file an FIR against the teacher in the police station,’ said Ajaya Parida the Block Education Officer of Mahakalapada block.
The victim’s mother said her daughter was reluctant to go to school the next day. ‘When I questioned her she broke down and said the teacher had molested her in an empty room,’ she said.
Rajiv Lochan Panda, the SDPO, Kendrapara said, ‘The victim or her parents need to register an FIR against the accused teacher. The police cannot take suo motu action against the teacher.’
‘In many cases victims stay silent due to stigma attached to a sexual assault victim and due to the lengthy legal process,’ said Subas Das, a lawyer of Kendrapara.
