Jagatsinghpur, June 26 (LocalWire): Education has been affected in all primary and upper primary schools in Jagatsinghpur district due to shortage of Teaching Learning Materials (TLM), non-allocation of funds and delay in the annual repairing of these schools.
Funds are allocated to schools under the School Improvement Grant (SIG) and Minimum Repairing Grant (MRG) to all primary and upper primary schools to purchase TLM and for the annual maintenance of the schools from MRG fund but in the financial year 2018-2019 it was not allocated due to negligence of officials.
Primary schools get Rs 5000 every year from SIG fund while UP schools receive Rs 10,000 to 15,000 per year base on the student strength to purchase TLMs.
Similarly, schools also receive Rs 5000 to Rs15, 000 from MRG grant to repair the school buildings.
Due to non-allocation fund, teachers have not purchased chalk, duster, sketch pen, card board, alpine, tag and other learning materials for the students.
Teachers said they were forced to purchase learning materials from stationery shops on credit or from their salary. Teachers also alleged that during Fani, all teaching materials were destroyed.
The district project coordinator of Sarba Sikhya Abhiyan, Sapan Kumar Jena confessed ‘we received funds from the government on 28 March so the Collector could not release the fund in favour of each school due to the model code of conduct.
The process to release funds has begun and we expect to allocate the funds soon.’
