Bhubaneswar, Jan. 30 (Localwire) The chit fund scam again threatens the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
In a major development, two senior leaders and sitting MLAs have been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Seashore chit fund scam probe, sources revealed here on Tuesday.
According to the sources, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s close aides—MLA Anatanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Arun Sahoo were slapped with CBI notices directing them to depose before it in the multi-crore scam.
The sources said that both the MLAs were summoned to appear on January 28 & 29, amidst speculation of their involvement in the scam.
It may recalled that earlier, in September 2017, the CBI had arrested BJD’s Cuttack-Choudwar MLA Pravat R. Biswal in connection with the scam.
Later, he was granted bail by the Orissa High Court in June 2018.
In a related development, Orissa High Court today allowed anticipatory bail to BJD MP Rabindra Jena in connection with the chit fund scam.
