Berhampur, Jan 25 (LocalWire) Security has been tightened in the southern districts of Odisha on the eve of the Republic Day celebration on Saturday, said police.
Additional security forces have been deployed in Maoist-infested Kandhamal and Gajapati districts, after the rebels put up posters referring to the Republic Day as a “Black Day”.
Several Maoist posters surfaced at Baliguda, Tumudibandh, Kotagarh police stations limit on Jan 19 and 20, appealing people to hold protests from Jan 26 to 31.
The posters of Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh- Nayagarh (KKBN) division of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) also justified the murder of Rabindra Mallick, watchman of the construction camp on Sudrukumpa-Tikarapada road on January 6.
Mallick was killed as he was an informer of police. The ultras have also warned other informers of facing the same fate.
“As the ultras are very active especially in Kandhamal district, we have tightened security on the eve of the Republic Day,” said a senior police officer.
