Berhampur, August 29 (LocalWire): Security forces have busted a Maoist camp in Motangi jungle near Pahiraju under Kandhamal district’s Gochhapada police station limits on Wednesday afternoon after an exchange of fire between them.
Besides a 12-bore rifle and 11 live ammunitions, the security forces also seized four radio sets, six detonators and other belongings of Maoist cadres from the camp, Kandhamal superintendent of police Pratik Singh said.
“Some improvised explosive devices (IED) which were recovered, have been defused on the spot,” he stated.
The officer further informed that the anti-Maoist operation was conducted by the Special Operations Group and District Voluntary Force after the Maoists started firing at them forcing the security forces to retaliate.
No causality has been reported in the exchange of fire that went on for about half-an-hour in the jungle. However, police suspect that some red rebels might have been injured.
Police, however, said no jawan was injured. “Most of the ultras belong to Chhatisgarh and they were planning major violence in the district. At least 15 rebels were in the camp during the incident,” the police said.
