Rourkela, Oct 31 (LocalWire): Police and civil supply officials seized 100 quintals of rice packed in 200 bags while being transported in a truck here, official sources said today.
A team led by assistant civil supply officer Ramachandra Tudu stopped the truck near Hanuman Vatika yesterday and recovered the rice.
On being asked, the driver of the truck Ajit Pradhan said that he was given a slip by a staff and asked to dispose it off locally to which the later denied.
Tudu said investigation was continuing as to how the consignment moved out of the FCI Godown.
“We will get to the bottom of the issue”, he said.
Raising fingers at some insiders in the department, an official, on condition of anonymity, said this was not an isolated case but a continuous process.
“How come the whole consignment was allowed to move out of the Godown that too without any gate pass and papers? This cannot be done without the involvement of right person at the right place”, he said.
Meanwhile, BJP state secretary Dhiren Senapaty ridiculed the state government over the seizure of rice stating that the government is talking about 5T but what is happening on the ground is quite opposite.
