Berhampur, August 16 (LocalWire): Senior Congress leader and former Baliguda MLA Sahura Mallick died early morning on Friday at the Baligudain sub-divisional hospital in Kandhamal district. He was 85 and is survived by a son and three daughters.
The veteran leader was suffering from prolonged illness was admitted at the government-run hospital on Thursday night after his condition became serious.
The three-time MLA, however, could not recover and passed away while still on treatment.
His son Sadananda Mallick, also a Congress leader and several of his relatives were in the hospital at the time of his death.
Mallick, who served as a teacher before joining politics, was very popular in the area and was elected from Baliguda, a reserved assembly segment for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates on Congress ticket in 1974, 1980 and 1985.
