Kendrapara, December 24 (LocalWire): Rajnagar police in the district arrested seven people on charges of attacking a group of visitors at a tourist spot in Pentha beach within Gahiramatha Marine Sanctuary on Tuesday.
The arrests were made based on the FIR filed by Kuber Palei, a tour operator of Manapada village on Monday evening alleging that over 70 tourists were harassed and attacked by miscreants while they were returning from Pentha.
The miscreants also snatched away mobile phones and gold chains from some tourists.
Acting on the FIR the police arrested Niranjan Rout (39), Saroj Kumar Das (34), Jagabandhu Nayak (35), Niranjan Khuntia (47), Priya Ranjan Kar (32), Srikant Bal (39), and Hemant Rout (38) of Kendrapada town under Sections 147, 336, 323, 504 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code.
All arrested persons were produced in the court at Rajnagar on Tuesday, which rejected their bail applications and remanded them to jail custody, Rajnagar police station inspector-in-charge Tapan Kumar Nayak said.
“Pentha beach is one of the emerging eco-tourism destinations in the Kendrapada district” he said.
A”the complaint, we have increased safety measures and decided to intensify patrolling in the area,” the police officer stated.
“The ten-kilometer long virgin beach has everything a tourist can wish for. Each day hundreds of tourists visit Pentha and its nearby mangrove forest and it is high time that the government establishes the police outpost at Pentha for the safety of tourists,” former chairman of Rajnagar block Jagabandhu Nayak said.
