Berhampur, April 3 (LocalWire): Police on Wednesday arrested seven members of a criminal gang from Gurunthi area of the city while they were planning to commit a major robbery.
The accused were identified as Ganguli Das, Iswara Reddy, Pramod Mohaana, Sajan Gouda, Simanchal Gouda and Nisha Naik, police said.
A country-made gun, four live ammunition, two crude bombs and a sword were seized from their possession, said sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Berhampur, Sadara Jayant Kumar Mohapatra.
Mohapatra said that the accused had gathered in a rest-shed to discuss their plan when the police arrested them. Several criminal cases were pending against them, he said.
Police have recently intensified their crackdown on anti-socials in the city in view of the April 11 polls.
Last Saturday, police had busted another such gang with the arrest of its five members from Chandan Nagara area. A country-made 9 mm pistol, two live ammunition, two crude bombs, sword, iron rod and a motorcycle were seized from them.
