Bhubaneswar, Sept 15 (LocalWire): In a freak mishap, one of the seven locals who had sneaked into the protected forest area of Kalahandi district to hunt wild boar, was accidentally shot by one of his accomplices. Police arrested the six other men today.
The gang of poachers had planned to hunt animals in the boar-infested Bajanguda forest area under Kesinga police station jurisdiction.
Rahu Majhi was killed as one of his fellow poacher as he was mistaken as a wild bear near a bushy area of the forest. The victim bled to death on the spot. Later, the accused cremated the body in the jungle, police said.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the victim’s relatives, the murder was cracked and skeletal remains of the body were exhumed, police said.
Two country-made guns were seized from their possession.
On intense interrogation, the arrested poachers confessed to the crime. They have been remanded to judicial custody under IPC Section 302 (murder) and Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, police said.
