Bhubaneswar, Mar 1(LocalWire): A 68-year-old biker from Maharashtra who is touring the whole country to create awareness on organ donation on Sunday visited Bhubaneswar as part of his journey.
The sexagenarian during his visit to the state also tried to extend his awareness mission here.
The biking enthusiast, Pramod Laxman Mahajan started his journey on January 18, 2020 from Pune in his home state.
During his awareness mission, he traveled to parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh while there are many other states yet to be visited on his list.
During his visit to the city on Sunday, Mahajan undertook discussion sessions with the local bikers and other citizens and talked in detail about the need for organ donation in the country.
The man on his mission will culminate his voyage on May 28,2020.
The biker entered the state through Berhampur in the state and all set to visit Balasore next.
His next target will be West Bengal after his trip to Balsore and where he will undertake some awareness events there. Mahajan is himself an organ donor.
He had donated his kidney 19 years ago to an army jawan who had ailing kidneys.
Mahajan claims that even after 19 years of his donation, both the jawan and he himself are living a healthy life.
For Mahajan, this was his second such tour across the country.
Last year he had covered 19 states in 100 days and covered a distance of 12,500 kms. His name was also recorded in the Limca Book of Records for his works.
Mahajan takes pride in the fact that due to his act, 19 people had come forward for organ donation and while his works have helped in organ donation operations of hundreds of persons.
Data suggests that every single day, at least 15 patients die waiting for an organ and every 10 minutes a new name is added to this waiting list.
India is said to be struggling with an acute shortage of organs for transplantation and the numbers highlight the yawning gap between the number of organs required and the organs available for transplantation.
